13. How did you spend the lockdown period?

The initial 21-day lockdown period was proven to be very productive, depending on how you used it! I’d like to share how I spent my time during that lockdown period.

Since the announcement of that lockdown, most of the exams had been postponed, which was actually a blessing in disguise because I got more time to prepare for the exams!

I got to spend some quality time with my family. We had actually bonded quite a lot during the period that we spent together, as one family.

All this extra time at hand got me pumped to learn a new skill. I quite honestly love music in general so I had been taking courses, and they were super interesting!

I had also been using that extra time to catch up with the TV shows and read books that I had forever been wanting to! Shows like The Big Bang Theory and Breaking Bad were awesome!

So, contrary to the popular opinion that the lockdown period was just unproductive and boring, I think it really depends on how you spend your time. Being active on social media can help spend time but it’s obviously going to get boring after a while. I would highly recommend that you pick up a new skill or do something you’re really interested in.

Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)

It is a contagious disease caused by coronavirus. The first known case was identified in Wuhan, China, in December 2019. The disease has since spread worldwide, leading to an ongoing pandemic. Symptoms of COVID-19 are variable, but often include fever, cough, headache, fatigue, breathing difficulties, and loss of smell and taste. Symptoms may begin one to fourteen days after exposure to the virus. At least a third of people who are infected do not develop noticeable symptoms. Transmission of COVID-19 occurs when people are exposed to virus-containing respiratory droplets and airborne particles exhaled by an infected person.

Demonetization

It is the act of stripping a currency unit of its status as legal tender. It occurs whenever there is a change of national currency. The current form or forms of money are pulled from circulation and retired, often to be replaced with new notes or coins. Sometimes, a country completely replaces the old currency with new currency. On 8 November 2016, the Government of India announced the demonetization of all ₹500 and ₹1,000 notes. It also announced the issuance of new ₹500 and ₹2,000 banknotes in exchange for the demonetized notes.

Globalization

It means the speedup of movements and exchanges (of human beings, goods, and services, capital, technologies, or cultural practices) all over the planet. One of the effects of globalization is that it promotes and increases interactions between different regions and populations around the globe.

Urbanization

It describes both the increase in the percentage of a population that lives in cities as well as the increase in the size of those cities. Urbanization refers to the population shift from rural to urban areas, the corresponding decrease in the proportion of people living in rural areas, and the ways in which societies adapt to this change. It is predominantly the process by which towns and cities are formed and become larger as more people begin living and working in central areas.

Global Warming

It is the gradual heating of Earth's surface, oceans, and atmosphere. Already, global warming is having a measurable effect on the planet. Global warming occurs when carbon dioxide (CO2) and other air pollutants collect in the atmosphere and absorb sunlight and solar radiation that have bounced off the earth's surface. Higher temperatures are worsening many types of disasters, including storms, heat waves, floods, and droughts.

Deforestation

It is the permanent removal of trees to make room for something besides the forest. This can include clearing the land for agriculture or grazing or using the timber for fuel, construction, or manufacturing. Deforestation has been negatively affecting natural ecosystems, biodiversity, and the climate.

Pollution

It is the addition of any substance (solid, liquid, or gas) or any form of energy (such as heat, sound, or radioactivity) to the environment at a rate faster than it can be dispersed, diluted, decomposed, recycled, or stored in some harmless form. The major kinds of pollution, usually classified by environment, are air pollution, water pollution, and land pollution. Modern society is also concerned about specific types of pollutants, such as noise pollution, light pollution, and plastic pollution. Pollution of all kinds can have negative effects on the environment and wildlife and often impact human health and well-being.

E-commerce (electronic commerce)

It is the activity of electronically buying or selling products on online services or over the Internet.

Online Shopping

It is a form of electronic commerce which allows consumers to directly buy goods or services from a seller over the Internet using a web browser or a mobile app. Consumers find a product of interest by visiting the website of the retailer directly or by searching among alternative vendors using a shopping search engine, which displays the same product's availability and pricing at different e-retailers.

Child Labour

It is work that deprives children of their childhood, potential, and dignity. It harms children mentally, physically, socially, and morally. It interferes with their schooling, preventing them from attending or concentrating. It may involve them being enslaved, separated from their families, and exposed to serious hazards and illnesses. Children work because their survival depends on it, because their parents don’t have access to decent work, because national education and social protection systems are weak, and because adults take advantage of their vulnerability.

Women Empowerment

It is empowering women to take their own decisions for their personal development. Women play a vital role in making our world a better place. Empowering women means making them independent in all aspects, including mind, thought, rights, and decision-making, by overcoming social and family limitations. Women empowerment is very necessary to make the bright future of the family, society, and country.

Technology is important in today's world because it serves a variety of functions in many of the most important aspects of modern society, such as education, communication, business, and scientific progress.
