In this guide, we'll walk through the process of setting up Ventoy to accommodate multiple iOS installers on a USB drive.

What is Ventoy?

Ventoy is an open-source tool that allows users to create multiboot USB drives effortlessly. Unlike traditional methods of creating bootable USB drives, which involve formatting the entire drive and copying one installer image at a time, Ventoy utilizes a unique approach.

It creates a bootable USB drive with a small, configurable environment that can recognize and boot multiple installer images directly from the drive, without the need for extraction or modification.

With Ventoy, creating multiple iOS installers on a single USB drive becomes a straightforward process. Whether you're a developer needing to test multiple iOS versions or a user with various iOS devices to manage, Ventoy offers a convenient solution for installing iOS from a multiboot environment.

By following the steps outlined in this guide, you can easily set up your own multiboot iOS installer USB drive and streamline your iOS installation process.

Step 1: Prepare Your USB Drive

Before we begin, ensure you have a USB drive with sufficient storage capacity to accommodate multiple iOS installers. A drive with a capacity of 16GB or more is recommended. Backup any data on the drive, as the process will erase all existing data.

Step 2: Download and Install Ventoy

Ventoy is available for download from its official website. Visit ventoy.net and download the latest version of Ventoy for your operating system. Once downloaded, follow the installation instructions provided for your platform.

Step 3: Download iOS Installer Images

Next, you'll need to obtain the iOS installer images you wish to include on your multiboot USB drive. These can typically be downloaded from the Apple Developer website or other reputable sources. Ensure you have legal access to these images and verify their integrity using checksums when available.

Step 4: Format USB Drive with Ventoy

Insert your USB drive into your computer and launch Ventoy. Select the USB drive from the list of available devices and choose to install Ventoy on it. This process will format the drive and set it up to work with Ventoy.

Step 5: Add iOS Installer Images to Ventoy

Once Ventoy is installed on your USB drive, you can begin adding the iOS installer images. Simply copy the .iso or .img files for each iOS installer into the "ventoy" folder on the USB drive. Ventoy will automatically detect these images and make them available for booting.

Step 6: Customize Ventoy Configuration (Optional)

Ventoy allows for customization of its configuration via a configuration file named "ventoy.json." You can edit this file to change settings such as the default boot entry, theme, and timeout values. Refer to the Ventoy documentation for more information on available configuration options.

Step 7: Safely Eject USB Drive

Once you've added the desired iOS installer images and customized the Ventoy configuration to your liking, safely eject the USB drive from your computer.

Step 8: Boot from USB Drive and Install iOS

Now that your multiboot USB drive is ready, insert it into the computer where you wish to install iOS. Boot from the USB drive (you may need to adjust the boot order in your computer's BIOS or UEFI settings) and select the desired iOS installer from the Ventoy boot menu. Follow the on-screen instructions to install iOS as you normally would.
