Mixed Practice
This is the final practice lesson of Class 1 Mathematics. It brings together the important ideas learned throughout the book.
Read each question carefully and decide which mathematical skill you need to use. Try to solve each problem on your own before checking your work.
Learning Objectives
- Use number skills in different situations.
- Solve simple addition and subtraction problems.
- Recognise common shapes.
- Compare simple measurements.
- Use basic time and money ideas.
- Apply different mathematics skills together.
- Check answers carefully.
Numbers and Patterns
1. What number comes after 18?
2. What number comes before 10?
3. Which is greater: 7 or 4?
4. Find the missing number: 4, 5, __, 7.
5. What comes next: 2, 4, 6, __?
Addition and Subtraction
1. What is 3 + 4?
2. What is 5 + 2?
3. What is 8 − 3?
4. What is 9 − 4?
5. There are 4 red balls and 3 blue balls. How many balls are there altogether?
6. There are 8 apples and 2 are eaten. How many apples remain?
Shapes and Measurement
1. Which shape is round and has no corners?
2. How many sides does a triangle have?
3. How many corners does a square have?
4. Which is longer: a ruler or a small eraser?
5. Which is heavier: a school bag or a pencil?
6. Which can hold more water: a large bottle or a small cup?
Time and Money
1. How many days are there in a week?
2. Which day comes after Tuesday?
3. Which part of the day comes after morning?
4. Which is more: ₹10 or ₹5?
5. You have ₹10 and spend ₹3. How much money is left?
6. You have ₹5 and receive ₹2 more. How much do you have?
Think Carefully
Some questions require more than one step. Read the information carefully and decide what you need to do first.
There are 3 red balloons and 4 blue balloons. Two balloons fly away.
First find the total: 3 + 4 = 7.
Then subtract the balloons that flew away: 7 − 2 = 5.
Answer: 5 balloons remain.
Final Practice Challenge
1. I am a number greater than 6 and smaller than 8. What number am I?
2. Complete the pattern: 5, 6, 7, __, 9.
3. A child has 5 pencils and receives 3 more. How many pencils does the child have now?
4. A child has 9 chocolates and gives 4 away. How many chocolates remain?
5. Which shape has three sides and three corners?
6. Which is heavier: a book or a pencil?
7. Which comes after afternoon: evening or morning?
8. You have ₹10 and buy something for ₹6. How much money remains?
Try It Yourself
Choose any five topics from Class 1 Mathematics. Create one question for each topic and solve them without looking at the answers. Check your work after completing all five questions.
Quick Revision
- Numbers help us count, compare and find patterns.
- Addition combines quantities.
- Subtraction helps us take away and find what remains.
- Shapes help us recognise and describe objects.
- Measurement helps us compare objects.
- Time helps us understand when activities happen.
- Money helps us buy and sell things.
- Different mathematical skills can be combined to solve problems.
Next Step
You have completed Chapter 12 — Revision and Practice and the Class 1 Mathematics learning sequence. You have revised numbers, addition, subtraction, patterns, shapes, measurement, time, money and mathematical thinking.
Keep practising these skills and use mathematics in your everyday life. You are now ready to continue learning more advanced mathematics in the next class.
