Understanding Simple Instructions
An instruction tells us what to do. We hear instructions at home, at school and in many everyday situations.
To follow an instruction correctly, we need to listen carefully, understand the words and then do what we are asked to do.
Learning Objectives
- Understand what an instruction is.
- Listen to simple instructions.
- Understand common instruction words.
- Follow simple instructions correctly.
What Is an Instruction?
An instruction is something that tells us what to do. Instructions can be short and simple.
We listen to an instruction, understand it and then follow it.
For example, if someone says, "Stand up," the instruction tells you to stand.
Simple Instructions
- Stand up.
- Sit down.
- Open your book.
- Close your book.
- Raise your hand.
- Come here.
- Go there.
- Write your name.
Following Instructions in Order
Sometimes we receive more than one instruction. We should listen carefully and follow the instructions in the correct order.
Example:
Take your pencil → Open your notebook → Write your name.
Doing the steps in the correct order helps us complete the task correctly.
Common Mistakes
- Do not start before listening to the complete instruction.
- Do not ignore important words.
- Do not change the order when the order matters.
- Ask politely if an instruction is not clear.
