Understanding Time
Time helps us know when something happens. We use time throughout the day to organise our activities and understand the order in which events happen.
For example, we wake up in the morning, have meals during the day, play in the evening and usually sleep at night.
Learning Objectives
- Understand the basic idea of time.
- Understand that events happen at different times.
- Recognise different parts of the day.
- Put simple daily events in order.
What Does Time Tell Us?
Time tells us when something happens. It helps us know whether an event happens before, after or at a particular part of the day.
These activities happen at different times during the day.
Parts of the Day
We can describe different times of the day using words such as morning, afternoon, evening and night.
Before and After
Time also helps us understand the order of events. One activity may happen before another, while another happens after it.
Breakfast happens before going to school in this example.
Common Mistakes
- Do not think that all activities happen at the same time.
- Remember that morning, afternoon, evening and night are different parts of the day.
- Look at the order of events when deciding what happens before or after.
Practice
1. What helps us know when something happens?
2. Name two parts of the day.
3. Which usually comes first: waking up or sleeping?
4. Which part of the day usually comes after afternoon?
Try It Yourself
