A Complete Guide to Eid al-Adha (Bakra Eid) Salah: Step-by-Step with Arabic, English, and Hindi Transliteration
Introduction
Eid al-Adha Salah, also known as Bakra Eid prayer, is a special congregational prayer performed on the morning of Eid al-Adha, the Festival of Sacrifice. It commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s (AS) willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah’s command. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, "The first thing we do on the day of Eid is to offer the prayer" (Sahih Bukhari). This prayer consists of two Rak’ahs with additional Takbirs, followed by a Khutbah, and is often followed by the Qurbani (sacrifice). This guide details the two Rak’ahs of Eid al-Adha Salah, including Arabic recitations, their transliterations in English and Hindi, and translations, along with guidance on Qurbani preparation. Whether you’re new to Eid al-Adha Salah or seeking to perfect your prayer, this blog will help you perform it with devotion.
Understanding Eid al-Adha Salah
Eid al-Adha Salah is performed in congregation, typically in an open area or mosque, shortly after sunrise on the 10th of Dhul-Hijjah. It consists of two Rak’ahs with seven additional Takbirs in the first Rak’ah and five in the second, recited aloud by the Imam. The Khutbah follows, offering reminders about sacrifice and devotion. The Quran states, "So pray to your Lord and sacrifice [to Him alone]" (Surah Al-Kawthar, 108:2). Unlike Eid al-Fitr, no food is eaten before the prayer, and Zakat al-Fitr is not required. Instead, those who can afford it perform Qurbani (sacrifice of an animal, typically a goat, sheep, cow, or camel) after the prayer, sharing the meat with family, friends, and the poor. To prepare, perform Ghusl, wear clean or new clothes, apply perfume (for men), and recite Takbirat loudly en route to the prayer ground. Men, women, and children are encouraged to attend, fostering unity.

English: Assalamu ‘alaikum wa rahmatullah
Hindi: अस्सलामु अलैकुम व रहमतुल्लाह
Translation: Peace and mercy of Allah be upon you.
Khutbah (Sermon)
Note: After the prayer, the Imam delivers a Khutbah in two parts, typically in Arabic followed by the local language. It includes praise of Allah, blessings on the Prophet (PBUH), and reminders about sacrifice and devotion. Listening attentively is recommended, though not obligatory as in Jumu'ah.
Qurbani (Sacrifice)
Note: After the Salah and Khutbah, those who can afford it perform Qurbani, sacrificing an animal (e.g., goat, sheep, cow, camel) in remembrance of Prophet Ibrahim’s (AS) obedience. The meat is divided into three parts: one for the family, one for friends/relatives, and one for the poor. Ensure the animal is healthy and the slaughter is performed according to Islamic guidelines, preferably after the Eid Salah and before the 12th of Dhul-Hijjah.
Intention for Qurbani:
نَوَيْتُ أَنْ أُضَحِّيَ لِلّٰهِ تَعَالَىٰ
English: Nawaytu an udhahhiya lillahi ta’ala
Hindi: नवायतु अन उज़ह्हिया लिल्लाही तआला
Translation: I intend to perform the sacrifice for Allah, the Exalted.
Post-Prayer Practices
Note: After Eid Salah, greet others with “Eid Mubarak,” exchange embraces, and share meals. Proceed with Qurbani if applicable, and distribute the meat generously. Continue reciting Takbirat throughout the days of Tashriq (11th to 13th Dhul-Hijjah). No additional Rak’ahs are required after Eid Salah.
Tips for Perfecting Eid al-Adha Salah
Eid al-Adha Salah is a profound act of worship that honors sacrifice and obedience. Here are some tips:
- Preparation: Perform Ghusl, wear your best clothes, and recite Takbirat loudly en route to the prayer ground. Arrange Qurbani logistics in advance.
- Takbirs: Practice the additional Takbirs (seven in the first Rak’ah, five in the second) to follow the Imam smoothly. Say “Allahu Akbar” clearly.
- Spiritual Motivation: Reflect on the Hadith: "The son of Adam does no deed on the day of sacrifice more beloved to Allah than shedding blood [of Qurbani]" (Sunan Tirmidhi).
- Avoid Mistakes: Follow the Imam closely, maintain proper rows, and avoid distractions during the Khutbah.
- Qurbani and Charity: Ensure the animal is slaughtered humanely, and distribute meat to the poor promptly to maximize the reward.
Performing Eid al-Adha Salah and Qurbani with sincerity deepens your faith and community ties. Seek Allah’s acceptance for your worship.
